I’m Late! I’m Late!

Alice in Wonderland (Illustrator: Tarrant, 191...

I’m late; I’m late, but late to what? The Rabbit in Alice in Wonderland said he was late to a “very important date.” But I can’t think of any important date except I’m late writing this post. Here it is Friday and I’m just getting around to doing what I hoped to do on Wednesday. I’ve been working on a new website and it has gone a lot slower than I thought it would. I’m late! I’m Late! It’s not up and running yet.

I’m late getting my latest mugs and bowls to the coffee shop that sells them, but that’s not all my fault. The full kiln that I hoped would be unloaded last Saturday wasn’t fire on time and won’t be unloaded until tomorrow.

I have decided that the next thing I’m going to concentrate on making is 24-ounce tumblers. I don’t mean an acrobat, but those things you drink from. I’m tired of plastic.

Incidentally, I heard from somewhere that “tumblers” got their name because they were originally made of clay and were round-bottomed so they wouldn’t stand up. The idea was that you did not put down the tumbler that was handed you until you have finished drinking what was in it. Sounds reasonable to me.

Weep maid newContinuing in the Mud department the sculpture I did during Christmas break came out of the damp room yesterday into the real world of low humidity. If I think I’m behind there, I shouldn’t, after all clay has it’s own mind about how fast it is going to dry.

Flash! Flash! Even as I write this I get a call from Paul Nash, head of the Arts Department at Windward Community College telling me he put my 41-inch tall sculpture in the bisque kiln and started firing it. Considering the amount of things that were in line ahead if me, I didn’t expect it would get fired till the end of next week. Now, I just feel that I’m not so late.

In the Paper department I told you on Monday that I had received my shipment of my new novel, The Telephone Killer.

Watch the video.

I’m late there because I haven’t written everyone on my mailing list to let them know it is out and available. That’s what I’m supposed to be doing right now instead of writing this post.

The name of this site is Paper, Mud and Me. I’ve brought you up to date (kind of) in the Paper and Mud departments so that only leave the Me department. All I can say there is that I am so outrageously lucky, favored, fortunate, blessed, whatever you want to call it, that I don’t know how to handle it, but I’m trying. I’ve decided I will wait until I grow up to try and figure out why I’m so blessed.

Until then – thanks for reading this.

Blessings and Aloha.
